Science as Leisure

Liz Marchio

I am a trained ichthyologist interested in what gets people interested in natural history, biological sciences, and science careers. My passion is to find out what fuels curiosity for the natural world.

Biology-related serious leisure activities can impact people's interest in ecology, biology, and natural history. Do these activities promote biological understanding? If so, how does that progress and to what level does it progress to?

If you're interested in a starting a dialogue, please feel free to contact me. If you're curious about how I got here, my story can be found on the About Me page.

Aquarium Research Team - undergraduate research

Howdy! I have several, single, straightforward projects worthy of advanced high school, undergraduate, and Master's level research. If you are interested in studying just about anything aquarium-related, send me an e-mail. Here are the titles of a few. E-mail me for more details and I'll send you an abstract!

On-line research opportunity (new!): If you can't seem to find an interesting science project, or know a student who can't seem to find one, send me an e-mail. I do online mentoring for these research projects. Check out the website's Mentoring tab (to the left)- note that my research team only meets once every two weeks and we have everything organized in a Google Drive account. Online collaborating is now common and rather straightforward. It's a great skill to learn for budding scientists. An organized scientist is a very successful one.

E-mail me and maybe we can collaborate!

Research Projects:

Project 1: Quanitative Content

Online or in-person mentoring available. Publication experience possible.

E-mail me for more info!
